Damian Gunn LIFE Award

Damian's Story

In our hearts, we hold Damian near and fondly recall our time together.  God blessed us with him for 20 years and we are grateful for every moment.  Some of the qualities we most remember about Damian; we used as the foundation of the Damian Gunn LIFE Award.

Damian exuded love and generosity, especially to those close to him, surprising them with gifts or giving away his own possessions.  Those who knew Damian well, knew how fiercely loyal he was to his family and friends.  

He enjoyed expressing himself artistically through music, spending hours on end writing and recording music.  On one occasion, he performed at the Kansas City Chiefs stadium.  He also spent time drawing, painting and working on fashion design.  His creative mindset was regularly on display.

As he grew older, he professed his faith in Jesus as his savior.  He spent time with his stepdad, playing basketball, praying and reading the Bible.  At the time he passed, he was on his way to play basketball with his friends.  It brings a smile to our face to know his Bible was with him, tucked into his backpack.

In his adolescence, Damian struggled particularly with his mental health.  Even in the midst of his own struggles, he lent support to friends facing similar mental health challenges. He encouraged others to pursue their passions and utilize their God-given gifts.  We are confident Damian is with our Lord Jesus Christ and we anticipate the day we are reunited.
